The world of Lament is peopled by several different species—often called "races" on other games—which all have their own playing style; a sharp-eyed dhaja has entirely different merits than a broad-shouldered human. Each species has its own page outlining its physical description, what roles in society it gravitates towards, and the various pros and cons of playing one.

There are no personalities given in species summaries, save in the broadest strokes. A character's world view is based on their history and where (and with whom) they live or have lived, not their genetics, so your choice of species will not straitjacket you into a particular mode of behavior.

Regardless of pedigree, the various inhabitants of Lament are not interfertile; there are no half-breeds.

From left to right: dhaja, goblin, human, menhit

Currently available species include:

  • Dhajas: Tall, lean, and hairless. Very intelligent, good swimmers, somewhat frail.
  • Goblins: Short and scaly. Quick fingers, poor attention spans, make good generalists.
  • Humans: Broad-shouldered and feral. Strong, durable, slightly lacking in smarts.
  • Menhit: Clawed, furred, and wiry. Swift-footed, agile, tend to tire out quickly.

Further information about each species is available in our wiki!
